Judy Nash, FNP

Judy Nash has been a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for more than 25 years.  She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing at San Jose State University and her FNP at Stanford University Medical Center.  Judy worked alongside her husband, Dr. Peter Nash, at their clinic in Santa Cruz, where they raised their family.  In 2000, they semi-retired to Petrolia and started working one day a week at the Southern Humboldt Community Clinic.  Judy loves working with the stellar staff and diverse patients at the clinic. 

Her other interests include gardening, knitting, and volunteering for various nonprofits in Petrolia.

Mark Phelps, MD

I was born in Puerto Rico where my dad was stationed in the Navy. We moved to Garberville in 1955. After many years of schooling, my family and I returned to Garberville in 1982 to join dad in Family Practice.

Moving back to Humboldt County in 1982 was quite a change. The mills had closed and the area was transformed by the influx of creative enterprise. The artists, musicians, talented craftsmen, and builders have added a variety of color and variation to this small community.

The dozens of new businesses and enterprises are a result of the creative talents of these people and add to the solid, hard-working efforts of those who were here before and continue their own successful businesses.

I have watched the practice change over the years. We had an active hospital with obstetrics and operating room. Physicians have left and medicine has become centralized.

To me, nothing has really changed, its just like putting on a different shirt. Practicing family medicine in a rural area has been and continues to be, a joy as well as a privilege.
